If you’re looking for a unique, Australian wildlife encounter, look no further than Cape Hillsborough National Park.

Each morning at sunrise, Cape Hillsborough Beach plays host to a local mob of wallabies and kangaroos fossicking for breakfast. The phenomenon has been so popular with tourists that Mackay Tourism now offers guided tours to manage the process, ensuring everyone gets the best experience possible.

About the Tour

All campers know there’s nothing better than starting your day with a stunning beachside sunrise. So why not start yours the same way and join Ranger Sam for an educational discussion about all thing’s macropod?

Tours depart from the entrance of Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park 30 minutes before sunrise.  The tours are self-drive and will take you down to the beach where you’ll be joined by the wallabies and kangaroos as they search the early morning tide for a breakfast of mangrove pods.  Bus tours are available for those who do not want to drive.

We recommend you bring a few things along to make your experience memorable. Have a pair of headphones or earbuds handy to listen to Ranger Sam as she shares her extensive knowledge about the animals and the area.  If you don’t have them you can purchase a set for an additional fee on the day.  You’ll also need a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and bug repellent to keep you and your family protected.

If you’re social, or just want an unforgettable photo, don’t forget your camera! Take advantage of a few hints and tips, for insta-worthy photos, or a few great selfies that you’ll brag about for a lifetime.
