Cape York Caravan Parks
Appearing on many bucket lists is the amazing Cape York. An amazing destination where you can discover ancient fossils, fossick for gems and meet a host of authentic Outback characters.
Enjoy clear skies, and the fact that the limited artificial lighting ensures this region offers some of the best stargazing in the country. If you are travelling from late September to early November, enjoy the incredible Morning Glory cloud formations, these are long straight lines of cloud which stretch for thousands of kilometres across the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Pack your fishing gear because the fishing is unbelievable around the Gulf Savannah, especially if you want to catch a barramundi which can be found all over the region. There are plenty of blue salmon, grunter and bream around Karumba, and sweetlip, coral trout, parrot fish and red emperor off Sweers and Mornington islands.
This region is a birdwatcher’s paradise, so pack your binoculars, especially if you are visiting in the wet season. There are some 20 wetlands across the Gulf Savannah and they attract thousands of migratory birds.
Caravan Parks in this region can get very busy at peak times so it pays to call ahead!
