The Hervey Bay region stirs thoughts of whales, beaches, reef and islands.  It is the quintessential Queensland holiday destination for lovers of sand, sea and surf.

The region is swiftly gaining well-deserved global attention after the recent royal visit to Fraser Island, but there is still some quiet time to enjoy the region and create some magic family memories to last a lifetime.

Fraser Island – it’s impossible to talk about the region without first mentioning the world-heritage listed island.  Fraser Island is a family haven with many child-friendly activities including drifting along the current in Eli Creek, swimming in pristine Lake McKenzie and exploring the rainforest at Central Station.

Wildlife – the Hervey Bay region is renowned for whale watching and while this is an absolute must, there are many other wildlife experiences to be had.  Get up close and personal with kangaroos, wallabies and dingoes at the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary, feed turtles and swim with sharks at Reefworld Hervey Bay, or simply ride a horse through bushland at Susan River Homestead.

Head outdoors – this region is made for outdoor adventures.  Why not take some time to get out on the bay and look for dolphins, turtles and dugong?  Take a fishing rod to Urangan Pier and try your luck for the one that doesn’t get away, or enjoy a picnic at Wongi Waterholes.

Head indoors – while we say the weather is always perfect, we know there are days better spent inside.  The region covers these activities well with cinemas, ten-pin bowling, video arcades, a jump park and indoor entertainment centres filled with mini golf, laser tag and an ice-rink!

History – Maryborough is the home of Mary Poppins where you can find her silhouette everywhere, visit the Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum where more than 10,000 artefacts are on display or ride a replica of the Mary Ann, Queensland’s first steam engine.

We know you will enjoy the region as much as we do, and with the school holidays only a few weeks away, take some time now to start planning your next family holiday with and Caravanning Queensland to make some magic memories of your own.
