5 New Things to do on a Gold Coast Getaway

16 January 2023

The Gold Coast is a region renowned for its glitz and glamour, but as many of us who live an outdoor lifestyle know, there’s a far more relaxing & laid-back side to the area. All you have to know is where to look!

Read on below for a list of our Top 5 new things to try on a weekend getaway to Queensland’s answer to The City of Angels.

1. Walk through a World Heritage rainforest to Purling Brook Falls

The stunning Purling Brook Falls lies in the heart of Springbrook National Park. The walk is a relatively easy 4km circuit track, which takes about 2 hours in total to complete. This trail is good for the whole family and is accessible all year round – but the falls are best viewed in the warmer months after some rain!

2. Enjoy a sundowner at a rooftop bar

The Gold Coast is home to a number of idyllic rooftop bars, where the good vibes flow over the railings and across the glorious vistas beyond. Burleigh Heads is home to two of the finest options – try the Burleigh Pavilion or Justin Lane Rooftop at sunset for the perfect way to see out a big day exploring.

3. Take a dip in the Currumbin Rock Pools

A favourite hang out for Currumbin locals, these rock pools are the perfect place to cool off and spend some quality time with nature. Located a mere 15 minutes from the beach, this is a classic example of a journey that is just as scenic as the destination. And the best part? You can bring your furry friends!

Bonus tip! Drop into Freeman’s Organic Farm on your way home, where a 100 year old Gold Coast institution offers up some of the freshest organic fruit and veg going round. On Saturday’s the kids can even pick their own produce!

4. Surf a world famous point break!

Okay, we know this might not be new… But it is a must do! The Gold Coast is home to some of the best surf breaks in not just Australia, but the whole world. And the best thing about them? They’re suitable for everyone from beginner level to expert! On most days, the gentle peelers of Kirra Beach and Rainbow Bay allow surfers to catch some of the longest rides in the southern hemisphere! If you are new to the sport, try a surfing lesson for your best chance of riding a ‘bomb’. For lessons & board hire, check out www.walkinonwater.com

5. Stroll through the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens

Step out of the hustle and bustle and into pure tranquillity at the Botanic Gardens, located just minutes from Surfers Paradise. Visit the native Butterfly Garden, stroll the boardwalks surrounding the lake, and peruse the Sensory Garden. Whatever you do – make sure to stop and smell the roses! Drop into the Friends Centre where freshly ground organic coffee and tasty sweets are on the menu. Nature photography is one of the most fulfilling forms of photography. It’s all about the camera but, don’t forget about your filters, tripods and lenses when you set out with only a basic digital SLR. Many outdoor photography tips for beginning photographers completely forget to mention the vital needed equipment other than a camera. Getting good equipment can be time consuming and expensive. So before you rush off into the great outdoors to take pictures you need to have the right equipment to help you get the best pictures.
